Profile of Raquel Cole - Owner and Designer
Raquel Cole Jewellery got its start as a hobby in 2004 after I returned to work from 12mths Maternity leave. Upon my return to full time work I realised that my casual pastime had grown into a passion that I have now grown to love in my relaxed home studio, in rural Auckland. Family and friends further encouraged my passion after being enticed by my creativity & designs. My challenge now is to balance full time work while still finding time to design creative and inspiring pieces for my customers.
My designs are currently available in a small selection of retail outlets in Auckland. I also participate annually in Auckland’s 3 day show with Dunkley’s, ‘The Great NZ Craft Show’. This is also combined with displays at local events and the Kumeu Fashion Show in 2006, which showcased the latest fashions, and was one of the highlights of the year for me.
I have designed and handmade a range of affordable jewellery, specialising in weddings and special occasions. Custom bridal designs are a popular request and this is what I enjoy the most. This combines the customer’s style and creativity into their own jewellery design. A selection of my jewellery also includes one-off custom pieces for the tourist outlets, Galleries and gift shops. It is through these creations that I design pieces that reflect the 'Kiwiana' theme which is still so popular through out New Zealand and a traditional idea for sending overseas as gifts.
This sterling silver ring is an example of some of the new work I started designing in August 2009.
My creations use beautiful Swarovski pearls and crystals including unique and naturally shaped Freshwater pearls, and are all available in a number of different shapes and colours. Some custom designs use stunning Lampwork (handmade) glass beads, or Dichroic glass sourced around the world, and New Zealand. To ensure the highest quality my designs use precious metals including Sterling Silver, 9ct Gold and 14ct Gold filled. While I am not a silver-smith all the designs are assembled by me, including making all the earring hooks, and some necklace bails used to secure pendants.
